Super Mario Odyssey Music List Explained
There are sixteen types of music in the game, defined by the realm it was found in or by a general theme or use. Then there is:
- Kingdom Music Cap
- Music from the Cascade Kingdom
- Music from the Kingdom of Sand
- Music of the Wooded Kingdom
- Lake Kingdom Music
- Music from the Lost Kingdom
- Metro Kingdom Music
- Music of the coastal kingdom
- Music from the Snow Kingdom
- Lunch Kingdom Music
- Bowser’s Kingdom Music
- Moon Kingdom Music
- Music from the Mushroom Kingdom
- battle music
- Little world music
- Additional music
Even entering an 8-bit 2D level in a given realm unlocks a new track, as these sections have bit versions of the theme playing in that region or area.
It’s a brilliant way to enjoy the best Mario soundtrack ever created, and the mode even lets you play any music you’ve collected directly from the Music List menu.
Oh, and if you select a new track in the Music List menu, it will still play that track instead of the default music for that world.
Falling asleep listening to Honeylune Ridge’s relaxing theme in Moon Kingdom? Why not swap it for something more upbeat like the incredible Bowser’s Castle 2 or the big band sound of New Donk City (Band Performance)?
There’s even an extra layer to this new music-based dimension. If you look hard enough in each kingdom, you’ll occasionally come across a blue toad playing some songs on his oversized headphones. It will ask you to listen to a specific piece of music.
Simply load him from the Music List and he’ll give you a Power Moon for your troubles. Just remember that he won’t appear until you finish the main part of the story.

There are currently 82 clues in the entire game, and you’ll learn a good portion of them throughout the main story.
For any you might miss, look for ‘small world’ entries (specific hidden challenges that require you to rely on platforming techniques to reach a Power Moon or two) or other mini-game challenges where you disappear into a Warp Pipe or pass . through a hat door.
Sometimes these also have 8-bit sections, which effectively doubles the travel of the music track for that area.
