How to get a torch and light caves in Elden Ring

Torches in Elden Ring are simple but useful items that will help you navigate in dark places.

Although there are other items and tools available to help you explore, such as creating rainbow stones, a torch is easier to use and can become part of your equipment for use at any time.

What follows is an easy way on how to get a Torch in Elden Ring opening hours and how to equip a Torch when you need to use it.

Torch Location: How to Get a Torch in Elden Ring

The easiest way to get a torch in Elden Ring is to buy it from Kale, the merchant residing in the Church of Elleh.

This is one of the first locations you’ll see when you emerge in Limgrave, just north of your starting position. Kale is the same seller that sells you the brewing kit.

The torch will sell for 200 runes. From there, you can equip and use the torch as many times as you need.

Once you’ve decided on a starting class and a starting keepsake item, you first need to figure out how to level up, how to respec, and how to use Ashes of War. Do you need any directions from there? Our Elden Ring walkthrough and Elden Ring boss order can help you know where to go next, but we also recommend looking for Golden Seeds, Sacred Tears, Crystal Tears, Talismans, and some of our top weapon and armor picks. If you’re nearing the end of the game, we can help you with the Volcano Manor and Rykard quest, Haligtree’s Secret Medallion locations, solving Ordina, the Liturgical Town puzzle, Millicent’s quest, Commander Niall, Morgott, Godskin Duo , Maliketh and Malenia.

How to Equip a Torch and Light Caves in Elden Ring

To explore caves, you must hold the torch, and you can do this the same way you would equip a sword, shield, or other weapon.

To equip a torch, open the menu, then select Equipment, the top item in the list.

On the equipment screen, there are two rows at the top left: one for weapons and the other for shields or bows. The torch can be assigned to any of these depending on your preferences.

Decide on a slot and then select the torch.

Now, during gameplay, press Left or Right on the D-pad, depending on which slot or side you assigned the Torch to, to switch to the torch in that hand.

With the Torch available, you will now be able to explore dark places much more easily.

From here, it means that it’s much easier to access optional bosses early in the game, such as Demi Human Chief, Beastman of Farum Azula, and Erdtree Burial Watchdog.
