The Season of Light is the eighth season of the game Pokémon Go and is themed around the legendary Pokémon, Cosmog.
You’ll learn more about Cosmog by completing A Cosmic Companion, the Season of Light special research quest, launching during the Pokémon Go season. It will also see the return of legendary Pokémon, such as Yveltal and Deoxys, in five-star raids.
The Season of Light, like every season before it, sees changes to the egg tables, seasonal spawns, and which Pokémon appear in the Northern and Southern Hemisphere.

Pokémon Go Season of Light End Date: When will the Season of Light end?
The Season of Light has a start time of Thursday, September 1 at 10 am (local time) and an end date of Thursday, December 1 at 10 am (local time).
Go Battle League Season 12 will take place during this time period and, as usual, will contain all three leagues and a selection of special cups.
What do we know about the Season of Light in Pokémon Go?
Several features have bonuses that run during the Season of Light in Pokémon Go, starting with Research Breakthrough, which rewards you with more items and a greater amount of Stardust.
Meanwhile, raid fans can get two free raid passes per day by spinning PhotoDiscs at gyms and enjoy increased damage output by using a remote raid pass. You’re also guaranteed to receive a gift when you spin a PokéStop, and you’ll also earn extra stardust when you open gifts.
Finally, Incense will be more effective while you move.
There will be new stickers to collect during the Season of Light.
Similar to the Misunderstood Mischief mission that launched during last year’s Season of Mischief, there is a special research mission, called A Cosmic Companion, that runs during the Season of Light.
Cosmog.
A Cosmic Companion revolves around the research of the legendary Pokémon Cosmog, which can evolve into Cosmoen and Solgaleo or Lunala, along with Professor Willow.
As of this writing, three launch dates have been announced for this special research mission:
- Thursday September 1
- Wednesday, October 5
- Wednesday, November 23
The Season of Light will, of course, contain a number of in-game events for Pokémon Go trainers to enjoy, and as of this writing, seven have been announced:
- Inkay Limited Research: Saturday, September 3 from 11 am to 2 pm (local time)
- Psychic Spectacular – From Tuesday, September 6 to Monday, September 12
- Clefairy Commotion: Saturday, September 10, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. (local time)
- Deoxys Raid Day: Sunday, September 11, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. (local time)
- Test your mettle: Friday, September 16 to Wednesday, September 21
- September Community Day: Sunday, September 18, 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. (local time)
- Fashion Week: from Tuesday, September 27 to Monday, October 3
As of this writing, the Pokémon for September Community Day have yet to be announced.
Go Battle League Season 12 will also take place during the Season of Light.
Legendary Pokémon will, of course, return to five-star raids, with the following being the ones we know of at the time of writing:
- Deoxys: normal, attack, defense and speed forms: from Thursday, September 1 to Tuesday, September 13
- Yveltal – From Tuesday, September 27 to Saturday, October 8
Considering the mysterious gap between Deoxys and Yveltal, there’s a chance we’ll see some new Legendary Pokémon appear in five-star raids.
Finally, the Pokémon Go Twitter has been using images of a starry night sky to hint at the upcoming events of the Season of Light. Some of these images have been quite difficult to decode, but we’ve done our best below!
The first appears to be Cosmog, hinting at the season-long special research mission.
The second one is most likely Inkay, since it is backwards and the date coincides with the Inkay Limited Research event.
Now the third is where things get tricky, but my best bet is Mega Alakazam. Why else would there be spoons?
Using the date as our main clue again, this Pokémon is probably Clefairy since the date coincides with that of the Clefairy Commotion event.
With the DNA emoji and the date, I think this Pokémon must be one of the forms of Deoxys.
Number six is another tough one, but considering the small candle, this Pokémon could be Litwick, which is, well, a candle. (Pokémon, am I right?)
I admit it: I have no idea what this Pokémon could be. Maybe it’s Lunala, but I honestly have no idea.
The eighth image is another tough one, but, at least to me, it looks like Umbreon.
Below is the ninth and final image and again, I’m lost. The only Pokémon that comes to mind is Guzzlord, due to the star shape and the recent introduction of Ultra Beasts in Pokémon Go. However, I am willing to be completely and absolutely wrong.
The Season of Adventure Abundance is here! Its first event is A Paldean Adventure, which sees the true launch of Gen 9 and the special research mission A Paldean Adventure. You can also work on the Timed Investigation: Master Ball mission and compete in Go Battle League. Be sure to compete in Shadow Raids, complete routes, use Daily Adventure Incense for a chance to encounter Galarian Articuno, Galarian Zapdos, and Galarian Moltres. This incense can also give you encounters with other rare Pokémon in Pokémon Go.
Pokémon of the Luminous Hemisphere Season, seasonal and biome generation changes
The Season of Light, like every season of Pokémon Go, changes which Pokémon spawn specifically in the Northern and Southern Hemispheres, including which creatures spawn in different biomes:

What are seasons in Pokémon Go?
First introduced in December 2020, Seasons are three-month-long in-game periods that tie together various events into a theme and add a host of new features and quality of life changes.
This includes:
- Changes to the way Pokémon appear from season to season, which may cause some creatures to appear more regularly or become rarer in the wild for limited periods of time.
- Changes to egg pools and raids.
- Spawning specific to the northern and southern hemispheres, coinciding with real-world seasons.
- Highlights specific Mega Evolutions, giving them a power boost throughout the season.
- Changes to Deerling forms.
- A new season of Go Battle League, which will have the same duration as those seasons.
- XP boosts by completing specific activities, like five-star raids, for example.
- Introduce other general improvements in the quality of life.
- A variety of events in the game.
- New Pokémon.
