Google Search Year 2022: Many big-name actors returned to the big screen in 2022, with varying degrees of success. Some also gained prominence due to controversies, while others experienced a resurgence in popularity.
All in all, 2022 was a great year for movies and for everyone in the film industry. And it’s clearly evident in Google’s year-end search results for 2022. Three famous actors topped the list of Google’s most searched people in the world in 2022.
Unsurprisingly, the trio (Johnny Depp, Will Smith and Amber Heard) also topped the list of Google’s most searched actors in the world in 2022.

1) Johnny Depp
Johnny Deep dominated most of 2022, first due to controversies surrounding his delayed defamation lawsuit against ex-wife Amber Heard and then after winning the trial. Depp had sued Aquaman actress Amber Heard for $50 million for defamation after she suggested she had suffered abuse during their four-year relationship.
The pair went head to head in court, but Depp emerged as the winner of the “trial of the century.” Depp had previously lost a similar defamation suit in the United Kingdom, but regained his reputation after winning the trial in the United States. Depp also found favor with the public, who supported him by the millions. There is a major campaign underway to have Depp return as the iconic Captain Jack Sparrow in Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean series.
2) Will Smith
Will Smith shocked Hollywood and the world when he slapped comedian Chris Rock at the Academy Awards ceremony. Rock made a joke mocking Smith’s wife Jada’s bald appearance, which upset the Men in Black actor.
After a brief pause, during which Jada rolled her eyes and Smith smiled, he went onstage and assaulted Chris Rock in front of everyone, then accepted the award for Best Actor. Smith was condemned by the film industry, which called for better measures to protect comedians and severely punish those who dare attack them simply for doing their job.
Will Smith went underground for months, but remained a topic of controversy for most of 2022. He began trending again in late 2022 after the release of his slavery film Emancipation.
3) Amber Heard

Heard lost the highly publicized defamation trial and ended up on the receiving end of all the Internet’s wrath. She was accused of reaping unfair benefits from the #Metoo movement by destroying Johnny Depp’s career with false accusations against her.
4) Chris Rock
Chris Rock was involved in one of the craziest and most shocking stage incidents in history. Rock made a joke about Jada Smith’s appearance. While most people laughed, Jada’s husband, Will Smith, didn’t appreciate the joke as much as he was making fun of his wife’s health.
Rock was slapped by Smith on stage, finished performing like a pro and didn’t fight back or throw a tantrum. Chris Rock’s popularity has skyrocketed since then and he has been selling out his comedy shows.
5) Jada Pinkett Smith
Jada Pinkett Smith was the victim of the prank that sparked the 2022 Oscars slapping scandal. Jada suffers from alopecia, a skin condition that causes hair loss on the affected part of the body. She even sported a shaved head at the Oscars, which comedian Chris Rock joked about.
Most people laughed, including Jada’s husband Will Smith, but he soon took the stage and assaulted Rock live on television. Many people believe that it was Jada Smith who forced Will to defend his honor. Jada was also trending after news of her admitted affair with her son’s friend, Augustus Alsina, resurfaced.

Evan Peters is a popular American actor known for his time in American Horror Story and the X-Men series, where he played the superhero Quicksilver. However, in 2022, Peters attracted worldwide attention with his disturbingly good portrayal of cannibalistic serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer in the 10-episode Netflix series Dahmer-Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story. The show became one of Netflix’s most watched shows and confirmed Evan Peters’ rising star status in Hollywood.
8) Andrew Garfield
Andrew Garfield was once cast as the popular Marvel superhero, Spider-Man, in Sony’s reboot of the film series. The planned films were canceled after two films, but Garfield returned as the iconic web swinger in Marvel’s Spider-Man: No Way Home.
