Jiu Jitsu Battle, also known as “Magic Battle”, is a popular Japanese manga series created by Evil Brother. It has been serialized in Shueisha’s shonen manga magazine “Weekly Shonen Jump” since March 2018. As of July 2023, the series has been collected in 23 volumes. The story tells the story of Yuji Itatori, a high school student who joins a secret organization called “Jiu-jitsu Magicians”. He was tasked with removing a powerful curse called “Ryomen Sukuna”, but he reluctantly accepted the curse.
It is worth noting that “Jiu-jitsu Turn” is the sequel to “Tokyo Magic School”, which was serialized in Shueisha’s Jump Giga magazine from April to July 2017. It was later compiled into a separate volume, retroactively titled “Jujutsu Kaisen 0” in December 2018.
In North America, the comic is licensed by Viz Media and has been in print since December 2019. Shueisha publishes the English version of the series on the Manga Plus online platform. Additionally, two novels based on the series written by Ballad Kitaguni were published in May 2019 and January 2020 respectively.
The comic’s immense popularity prompted MAPPA to produce a 24-episode animated television series. It originally aired on MBS from October 2020 to March 2021. The highly anticipated second season premieres in July 2023. Crunchyroll has the license to broadcast the anime outside of Asia, and an English dub was launched in November 2020. The animation’s soundtrack was released in April 2021.

Jujutsu Kaisen centers on Yuji Itadori, a high school student from Sendai who excels in athleticism. Before his grandfather dies, Yuji receives two vital messages: “Always help others” and “Die surrounded by people.” Trouble arises when Yuuji’s friends at the mystery club accidentally unseal a cursed finger amulet, attracting the curse to their school. In order to protect the jujutsu mage Megumi Fushiguro, Yuuji swallowed the cursed finger and became the unwilling host of the vicious curse “Ryomen Sukuna”. Since Sukuna is extremely dangerous, the wizards aim to exorcise him and thus exorcise Yuuji.
However, Yuuji managed to retain control of his body, leading Megumi’s teacher Gojo Satoru to propose to him. Gojo suggests delaying Yuuji’s execution and training him to eat all 20 of Sukuna’s fingers, ultimately removing the curse. Meanwhile, a group of cursed souls, including the real person and the corrupt wizard Getosu, plot a multi-faceted attack on the magical world of Jujutsu.
The story unfolds as Yuuji, Megumi, and first-year student Nohara Kugisaki are training to become magicians. However, something goes wrong during a mission and Sukuna takes complete control of Yuji’s body, prompting Yuji to make a major decision.
Despite his sacrifice, Sukuna resurrected Yuuji because of his interest in Megumi. News of Yuuji’s survival sparks tension during an exchange event between Tokyo and Kyoto jujitsu schools, leading to a climax in a battle with a cursed spirit and the discovery of a traitor.
As the plot progresses, a conspiracy that causes chaos and a world ruled by cursed spirits gradually emerges. The story introduces new characters, alliances, and daunting challenges, culminating in a final showdown between wizards and evil forces, with Sukuna and Sword Sparrow at the center of it all. Amid fierce battles and intricate cursed technology, the story explores themes of friendship, sacrifice, and the relentless quest for power.

Crunchy roll
Crunchyroll, LLC, operating under the Crunchyroll brand, is an American entertainment company headquartered in Coppell, Texas. Its main business is the distribution and licensing of animation, movies and TV series. The company’s origins date back to May 1994, when Gen Fukunaga and his wife Cindy founded Funimation Productions in Silicon Valley. The company’s initial funding came from Daniel Cocanougher and his family, who later became investors.
Funimation later moved to North Richland Hills and later to Flower Mound, Texas. In May 2005, Funimation was acquired by Navarra. However, in April 2011, Navarre sold Funimation to a group of investors including Gen Fukunaga in a deal valued at $24 million.
