Construction of bases and operating bases

Just like in the first game, in State of Decay 2 you have a main base and then a series of other smaller outposts that you can claim to increase your resource income.

So your main base is your base: it’s where your community gathers, where you maintain vital facilities like infirmary and beds for your team to sleep in, or farms to grow your food, and it’s really the main hub from which you branch out. towards the rest of the game.

The first base of operations you get in State of Decay 2 will always look like this, regardless of which area you choose.

You’ll get your first base right from the start, very shortly after choosing which of the three areas you want to reside in (Foodhills, Plateua or Valley) and that first base, the house, is pretty much identical in each of those three. local.

However, you will soon outgrow it, and that’s when it’s time to choose your next base of operations. There is a fairly wide range of bases to choose from (a good half dozen in each area) and they all have different requirements (amounts of Influence required, which is obtained simply by completing tasks of any kind in the game, and also the number of survivors in your community at the time), so below we’ve put together a handy list of all the bases that are available, sorted by area, and we’ve also noted down all the facilities you can unlock at each of them.

Below, we briefly discuss our favorite picks for each area and anything else you should know about choosing bases and using them effectively in State of Decay 2.

What are the best bases in State of Decay 2?

With all of the above information in mind, there are a few bases that we can highlight as our favorites, at least on paper, as options as you progress through the game.

The standouts are obviously the larger late-game options: Container Fort, Barricaded Strip Mall, and Whitney Field (although the latter has some limitations and may not be the best option, more on that below). They’ll really be needed as you progress into the later game and want to clear out the harder Plague Hearts, but their strong defense and resource farming potential is generally great anyway.

Otherwise, the mid-game options are really interesting. We especially like the Bridge Fort in the Cascade Hills Foothills area. It’s easily defendable (there’s only one point that can be attacked at each end of the bridge) and is in a fairly central location with good access to nearby towns to loot and fairly flexible spaces to build your squad mid-game.

Climb up the viewing points scattered around the map to reveal the nearby area, and look for these castle-shaped markers that indicate the location of other bases.

Meanwhile, Squelones Brewing Company in Meagher Valley is a great option for hydroponic growing, so you can get excess supplies and trade them for what you need. If you don’t like Whitney Field, like many people, the Kelenqua Police Station and Campground are also solid and very flexible options for the mid and late game.

And then there’s Knight’s Family Drive-in in the Plateau region of Drucker County, which is a fun mock castle-themed restaurant. As a result, it is quite defensible, has plenty of parking for traveling around the area, and also plenty of outdoor slots for flexibility in how you build it.
