Resident Evil Village Maiden demo walkthrough, secrets and discoveries explored

Resident Evil Village received an exclusive PS5 demo following January’s Resident Evil Showcase.

The Maiden demo shares some similarities with the Resident Evil 7 demo: it offers a standalone experience set in the same environments as the upcoming game.

While it’s not as elaborate as that demo (there seems to be only one ending and only a few things you can miss), there are one or two light puzzles where this demo walkthrough can be helpful.

There are obviously spoilers ahead, so be sure to play the demo before reading.

In this page:

Complete Walkthrough/Walkthrough for Resident Evil Village Maiden Demo

Note that this is different from the April and early May preview, which will be staggered across multiple Resident Evil Village demo dates and times.

Resident Evil Village Maiden Demo Walkthrough

Although there are some optional things to look at, we’ll mainly keep the key interactions tutorial below for clarity. In the meantime, the final section of this page delves into additional interactions and things you may miss.

escape from the dungeon

To start, check the hole in the wall to find a note. Inspect it in your inventory with the triangle button, then inspect it with the X button to read it.

To get out of your cell, you must crawl under the bench along the wall. Press R3 to crouch and then move closer.

You will appear in another cell. To exit, approach the door and it will open.

This corridor has several other cells, some locked with chains. The only thing of interest for now is a cell to the right that has a woman crouching on the floor; She remembers where she is.

Go to the end, where there is a door and a locked cabinet on the wall. Interact with the cabinet to hear a noise beyond you.

Return to the cell with the woman and find that she has collapsed with Bolt Cutters on her back. Interact with these to add them to your inventory.

You can use the bolt cutters to open the cell next to it. Inside there are two cubes.

Investigate the correct one to find a lockpick.

Now head to the end of the hallway, use the lockpick on the cabinet to reveal a switch. Throw it to open the door.

How to escape from the basement

Follow the path through the basement to a room with a dining table.

Ignore the door in the corner and walk around the dining room table until you reach a cabinet on the wall. It is slightly ajar and can be interacted with, revealing a hidden passage.

Crawl to the other side.

In this hallway with a dead end, crouch and look into the alcove at the end on the right. Get close enough to the brick and interact with it to reveal a ladder up.

There is a note to the left that you can read when you reach the top of the stairs.

Otherwise, climb the ladder and then go through the wall into the castle area.

How to escape from the castle

You will emerge into a room furnished in white. There’s a necklace on the table here, a completely optional item that we’ll talk more about in the secrets section at the end, so don’t worry if you miss it.

Follow the linear hallways until you reach a door and reach the upper hallway of the entrance hall.

Turn it and on the far wall is a door with a face. Inspect it and you’ll see the message: “An eye is just an empty socket.” Our goal now is to find another eye that fits inside this face.

Turn around and go down the stairs to the right hallway.

There are some optional things to see here, but otherwise head to the double doors at the end.

Inside there is a room that overlooks a patio. There are locked doors here that you can interact with but not open; remember them for later.

On the other side of the table is a glass that you can interact with.

Look inside the top to find the Garnet Eye Ring.

Open your inventory, inspect the item, and move it so that it is facing you. Press the X button to get the Garnet Eye.

Now return to the hallway. There will be someone coming up the stairs; Wait until you’re at the top before climbing up yourself and then interact with the front door. Use the maroon eye to open it.

You will appear in a small room. There are two cabinets to the right of this small room that you can open.

The second has the key to the patio.

Now leave the room, go down the stairs and head to the room where you found the Maroon Eye key and use the key on the door. On the way, in the hallway, you will meet one of the daughters.

She will attack you, but once you are free, run around her, through the doors and then the patio door.

Use the door key to complete the demonstration.

Now to wait for the full game. Before that, were there any discoveries you missed along the way?

Eight questions Resident Evil Village must answer

Resident Evil Village Maiden Demo Secrets and Discoveries: What can you miss in the demo?

The walkthrough above describes almost everything the demo has to offer, but there are some elements and things that you can easily overlook while exploring.

Perhaps the biggest “secret” is a necklace you can find. After climbing the stairs out of the basement, you come to a white room adorned with furniture. The necklace is on a table in the center.

This item is not used in any of the puzzles, but has an intriguing description when seen in the inventory: “Animal bone necklace used to ward off evil. It was taken from me when I was thrown into that dungeon.”

This is useless, but it’s the closest thing we have to the simulated finger from the Resident Evil 7 demo: an unused optional item that alludes to being used somewhere. It’s possible that this Maiden demo has a similar update to give this item a purpose, but that’s pure speculation on our part.

Otherwise, here are some other items and observations you might miss during the demo:

In front of the cell you leave there are shelves with a knot that refers to medicines to keep livestock alive. (We don’t see any cattle, which means it’s probably used on whoever’s being held in the dungeon…)

There’s a second cell you can use the bolt cutters on in the dungeon, but other than a hanging corpse, there’s apparently nothing here.

After the dungeon, you can interact with the plate on the table and the record player on the side.

At the top of the stairs, after pushing the brick into the alcove, there is a note from 1958 that talks about working for the Lady and her daughters in the castle, suggesting a hint of vampire immortality.

The closet drawers in the second part of the demo, from the entrance hall onwards, can be opened, although none of them have collectible items.

There are some clothes burning in the hallway fireplace, which is “like the clothes I wear.”

One of the teacups on the side of the hall can be inspected. Look inside to see traces of blood.

There is a note with a list of “candidate” names in the corner of the hallway.

When you have the Brown Eye and go back through the hallway, you will see and hear one of the daughters walking up the stairs. In fact, it’s possible to run up to her and have her attack you before the obligatory encounter later on. (And, if you get attacked twice, you can die and restart from where you exited into the white room after the staircase.)

There is a note about winemaking techniques in the room where the courtyard key is located.

That’s apparently all there is to discover in the demo – fingers crossed that one or two updates will reveal a bit more before the game’s full release.
