Fortnite – Sideways encounter: How to complete a Sideways encounter and Sideways anomaly locations explained

Side Encounters are a new in-match minigame that you can complete in Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 8.

Fighting in a Sideways encounter will help you collect loot, such as Sideways weapons, and complete a series of challenges on mission punch cards. However, first you need to know how to find the locations of lateral anomalies.

Below you’ll find out how to complete a side encounter now that they are no longer disabled from the game.

Please note that this particular challenge can no longer be completed. What’s new? Chapter 4 Season 2 has arrived! New additions include Grind Rails and Kinetic Blades, along with the new Battle Pass, character collection, and Eren Jaeger skin. It’s a good idea to know how to get XP quickly in Fortnite.

Side anomaly locations in Fortnite explained

The easiest way to find the location of a Side Anomaly is to open the Fortnite map, where they will appear as purple cracks. You then place a marker on your preferred anomaly and head towards it once you are properly prepared.

It is important to note that the locations on the map above are only examples and not fixed locations. Don’t expect rifts to appear in these locations in your game! The lateral anomalies will also move around the map, disappearing and reappearing in new locations as you go, so if you want to participate, you should keep an eye on their location.

When you get close to a side anomaly, it will actually appear as a purple crack, until you get too close and it expands into a mini side zone. Here you will participate in a side encounter.

How to complete a side encounter in Fortnite

Side encounters in Fortnite involve fighting waves of Cube Monsters until you fill the orange challenge bar at the top of the screen. If you do this successfully, you will complete the side encounter. However, there is a problem and it comes in the form of a timer.

Fill the progress bar to complete a side encounter.

This timer will start every time you enter a side encounter and when it ends, the encounter will also end. To increase this timer, you must kill Cube Monsters, and stronger monsters provide more time, so if you want to complete the encounter, be sure to target the stronger monsters.

If you don’t, the Sideways encounter will end and you will lose your progress towards completion.

Pay attention to the stopwatch.

Fortunately, any loot you receive from killing Cube Monsters or Sideways chests will remain on the map whether you successfully complete the Sideways encounters or not. This means you can focus solely on opening chests, which, thanks to the lower gravity allowing you to jump higher and avoid monsters, is a good strategy for finding side weapons.

Side chests can be found in side encounters.

You can also have multiple side encounters per match, so don’t worry if you run out of time.

Other players can enter your Sideways encounter and you all share the same progress bar, so it’s worth keeping them alive. Until the match ends, of course.

A side meeting already underway.

When it comes to engaging in a side encounter, we recommend collecting some good weapons, some healing items, and building your shields a little early. While you can gather ammo and increase your shield by killing the cube monsters, this will ensure that you are adequately prepared and increase your chances of completing the side encounter.

This will also help you complete any Sideways-related challenges, such as Torin’s final punch card challenge.

Use the lower gravity to your advantage.
