However, ancient weapons and armor can still come in handy in unexpected times, and since there’s no limit to the number of different types you can carry, they’re worth keeping.
  • Change your party members from time to time. You’ll probably have a core tank, DPS, and healer team that you prefer. Heck, we played half the game with Vaan, Balthier, and Fran, but make sure they don’t. You won’t be too far ahead of the other three in terms of levels. You may have to dip into your reserves from time to time, even if it’s just to swap one out and cast a Phoenix Down in an emergency, so it’s not good if enemies can swat you like flies.
  • Use guest members when you have them: they don’t stay around forever, so you shouldn’t rely on them too much, but on the other hand they can be useful if you’re having trouble taking down a mark or grabbing an optional Esper.
  • Above all, have fun. There are points in the game where it can become an unavoidable grind, but don’t let that distract you from all the weird and wonderful things happening: rent a Chocobo and go for a ride.
