The FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup is the flagship event of the International Hockey Federation (FIH) and is held every four years. The 15th edition of the tournament, the FIH Hockey World Cup 2023, will be held in India from January 13 to 29, 2023.
The tournament was first held in 1971 in Barcelona, Spain and has since been held in several countries around the world. Pakistan is the most successful team in the history of the tournament, having won the title four times (1971, 1978, 1982 and 1994).
The 2023 edition of the tournament will feature 16 teams, with host nation India automatically qualifying for the tournament. The teams will be divided into four groups of four teams each.
The best team in each group advances to the quarterfinals, while the runners-up have to play crossover matches.
The tournament will begin with the opening ceremony and a match between Argentina and South Africa on January 13, 2023. The final match of the tournament will be played on January 29, 2023. The matches will be held at two venues, Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneshwar and the Birsa Munda Stadium in Rourkela. Pakistan, the most successful team in the Men’s Hockey World Cup, will not participate in the tournament this year.
