Destiny 2 Vault of Glass guide, changes and everything else you need to know about the returning raid

Vault of Glass, the first raid from the original Destiny and arguably Bungie’s best, has returned to Destiny 2.

Vault of Glass is available for free to all players, perfect for Destiny players looking to relive old memories.

That said, while the reintroduction of the Vault of Glass may have the pitfalls of the old raid, it’s a whole new beast. The structure of many of the encounters remains the same, but there are new technical aspects that make many of the later encounters much more difficult.

However, if you can master everything Venus throws at you, there’s plenty of cool loot to help you, from the Vex Mythoclast to the Fatebringer.

Destiny 2 Vault of Glass Changes Explained

Vault of Glass walks the line between being the raid we know, love, and sometimes get angry at while also offering a new challenge that takes into account the many differences in Destiny 2’s systems.

Here are the main changes to Vault of Glass at a glance:

  • The Vault of Glass opening works very similarly to the original with minor changes to enemy types.
  • Confluxes are shorter and each wave of enemies is identified with a Wyvern and an Overload Champion.
  • The big change to Oracles is that they must now be shot in the order they appear, adding a portion of Simon Says.

  • The Templar also includes Sequenced Oracles, and the Relic holder can no longer clear teammates of the Marked for Negation debuff.
  • The Gorgons are virtually unchanged despite minor adjustments to geometry and sensitivity.

  • The Guardian now has a debuff for those who carry the Relic into the portal rooms. The relic must be passed to the players so they can defeat a shielded enemy and then another player will carry it to another room creating a relay race mechanic.
  • Atheon, Time’s Conflux now incorporates oracles that must be read in order from outside the portal room. The portal room team must then defeat three oracles three times in the correct order to begin the damage phase. A random player will be stopped during the damage phase and must move away from his team.
  • Throughout the raid, chest locations have been moved, while there is a new collectible to find: Glass Shards.

The Season of the Depths is here along with the Into the Depths quest. You can also know how to go fishing! Don’t forget to keep an eye on the Lost Sector and King’s Fall challenge rotation schedule!

Outside of the raid itself, there is also the following:

  • The raid features now-familiar Destiny 2 staples like Wyverns and Overload Champions, so expect to find them everywhere.
  • Vault of Glass is not launched from a planet, as Venus is not in the game; instead, you must go to the Director’s Legends area.
  • As such, don’t expect random players to help you open the raid entrance (in the original, the first encounter was located in the Venus patrol area).
  • Datamines has revealed the Vault of Glass loot table, showing many returning weapons and armor pieces; Although, as the creator of the following image, Testifye on reddit, pointed out, which could be incorrect, early signs suggest that each encounter’s party includes two pieces of armor and three weapons:

  • In addition to this, there is a ‘vendor’ chest after the final encounter where you can spend Spoils of Conquest to purchase new rolls of acquired equipment, such as with Deep Stone Crypt.
  • Finally, datamines have also confirmed an upcoming Master difficulty.
  • At launch, Vault of Glass will be the only raid in Destiny 2 to offer Pinnacle drops, and Beyond Light’s Deep Stone Crypt will downgrade its drops to Mighty Gear at the launch of Season of the Splicer.
