However, before you can create a piece of furniture, you must find its DIY recipe and gather the right materials.
Once you’ve gathered these necessary materials, it’s time to find the nearest DIY workbench and start creating.

Crafting and DIY workbenches in Animal Crossing: New Horizons explained
Crafting is by far the most important activity in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, even more important than paying off your home loan.
It is through crafting that you will create your tools and most of your furniture in New Horizons.
When you arrive at your island, Tom Nook will be on hand to teach you the basics of crafting and one of the first things he will teach you is that if you want to craft, you will need a DIY workbench.
You can always find a DIY workbench in Residential Services throughout the game, but it’s more efficient to build one yourself. This way you can take it with you when you need it, place several DIY workbenches on your island, or even have one in your home.
To get a Simple DIY Workbench, download the latest update from Nintendo and you’ll receive one per release. To make it, you need:
Later on, you can also get a Mini DIY Workbench, which requires:
- 3x Wood
- 3x hardwood
- 3x soft wood
- 2x iron nugget
Once you’ve built a DIY workbench, you can start creating as many tools and furniture as you want, as long as you have the DIY recipes, of course.
How to get homemade recipes in Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Before even considering building a new piece of furniture, you should track down its DIY recipe.
Although key recipes come from trusted sources and are delivered to you in stages as the island grows. For example, flimsy tools come from Nook when you start donating fish or bugs, Blathers will give you the shovel because he needs help with fossils, and the first message in a bottle you find will offer you a mirror to customize the character.
However, for furniture and most other items, the list is random, so it’s a matter of continuing to play. However, there are several ways to find a homemade recipe in New Horizons, including:
- In bottles that reach the beach of your island
- On gifts you can shoot down from the sky.
- From your villagers, either as a gift or when you approach them while they are crafting inside.
- Redeem Nook Miles
- Purchased at Nook’s Cranny
Once you have found a DIY recipe, you can find it in your inventory.
Read DIY recipes in your inventory to add them to the app on your Nook Phone.
