Pokémon Sun and Moon QR Codes allow you to scan codes for (virtually) all Alolan Pokémon and add them to your regional Alolan Pokédex.
Not only is it a useful way to catalog creatures so you can later locate them in the wild, but the system also allows you to capture 28 additional non-Alolan Pokémon that you can’t get anywhere else, until Pokémon Bank supports Pokémon Bank. previous generations. is introduced, that is.
There are a few warnings in the system, and it will take you some time to scan them all, but it’s worth doing if you want to, ahem, “catch ’em all.”
How QR codes and island scanning work in Pokémon Sun and Moon
To scan a QR code, open the menu, go to the second page and select the ‘QR Scanner’ option. The camera will activate, place the desired QR code in front of it and shoot.

It will then be added to your Alola Pokédex, revealing where you can catch it in the game.
You can only use the QR scanner 10 times a day. For each scan you get 10 points and every 100 points allows you to use the Island Scan feature.
Island Scan will reveal a non-Alolan Pokémon on your current island for you to catch (full details of which are at the end of this article). Go to the location within the next hour and try to catch him, though keep in mind that you only have this single battle to do so. Whether you detect it or not, you have two hours before you can use Island Scan again.
With new Pokémon Island Scan available every day on each island, you should continue scanning QR codes and for the next few days (after all, it will take you over a month to scan each QR code and catch all the non-Alolan Pokémon) until You have the complete set. Good luck!

There are several ways to view each QR code in the Pokémon Sun and Moon Alola Pokédex. Please note that there are some notable exceptions, such as legendary or story-specific Pokémon, that will not be available to scan. An example is the Magearna QR code and event, which we detail separately.
