Kubfu is the legendary Pokémon and mascot of the Isle of Armor DLC and, unsurprisingly, plays a central role in the island’s main story.
Here, we’ll explain everything you need to know about the cute little bear, including how to get Kubfu in the first place, how to evolve Kubfu, and how to become Kubfu’s best friend for one of the Dojo challenges.

How to get Kubfu in the Pokémon Isle of Armor DLC
Kubfu, the Isle of Armor Legendary Pokémon, is awarded to you for completing all three Isle of Armor Dojo challenges.
Head over to our main Isle of Armor walkthrough hub for all the details on them, but here’s a brief overview of what those challenges are:
- Collect the three Slowpokes that escaped.
- Find some mushrooms Max
- Defeat your rival in a Dojo battle
After that final step, Mustard will grant you your reward, the Isle of Armor’s “secret armor,” Kubfu!
How to become Kubfu’s best friend
After obtaining Kubfu, you will be given an additional task: to become best friends. To do this, you will need to head to one of the several places on the island where there is an excellent view.
These are marked on your map with exclamation points, if you take a look. Any will do, but we took our Kubfu ourselves to the Potbottom Desert, just on the other side of the warm-up tunnel.
Interact with the Dojo attendant at any of these locations and they will let you enjoy the view. After that, you will receive a notification that you and Kubfu are best friends, and it’s time to return to the Dojo!
Now that it’s finally available, here’s how to start the Crown Tundra DLC and our full Pokémon Crown Tundra walkthrough. Also, here’s how to capture Calyrex, Glastrier and Spectrier, Regieleki and Regidrago puzzle solution and Regirock, Regice and Registeel locations, details on how to capture the legendary birds Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres in Crown Tundra, the adventure Ultra Beasts and Necrozma. How to evolve Kubfu into Urshifu
Once you’ve become best friends with Kubfu and returned to the Dojo to talk to Mustard, you can take the final steps to turn him into Urshifu.
To do so, you must go to one of the two towers on the island: the Water Tower or the Tower of Darkness. They are clearly marked on the map! The Water Tower is to the west by the sea; head to Soothing Wetlands and turn left to reach it. The Tower of Darkness is accessed by continuing straight through the Soothing Wetlands, passing through Brawler’s Cave and crossing Challenger’s Road, where it is further ahead.
Once you’re there, you’ll have to defeat five trainers, one at a time, a bit like an old-school Elite Four challenge. There are some rules: you can’t leave until you’ve defeated them all or until you’ve been defeated yourself, and the most important thing is that you can only Bring Kubfu inside, no other Pokémon! Oh, and you can only challenge one of the two towers, which means you’ll only get one of Urshifu’s two forms. To get the other one, you’ll need to complete the Isle of Armor DLC again with the other version of the game.
- Tower of Darkness: Choose this for the single hit style Urshifu, which is a Fighting and Dark type.
- Water Tower: Choose this for Quick Attack style Urshifu, which is a Fighting and Water type.
The in-game recommendation is for your Kubfu to level up to at least level 70. We got ours up to level 66, but we also fully EV trained him, giving him perfect attack and speed EVs, which meant he could defeat everyone. opposing Pokémon quite easily. Without EV training, we suggest levels 70 to 75.
You’ll easily defeat the first four Pokémon with Fighting-type moves, but be sure to bring a Flying or Psychic-type Pokémon for the final battle!
Once this is done, interact with the scroll on the upper floor and Kubfu will evolve into one of the two forms of Urshifu.
Return to the Dojo one last time and you’ll have one final task: find the ingredients for Urshifu to eat Max Soup, allowing him to Gigantamax!
That’s all here! Come back to our main Pokémon Sword and Shield Isle of Armor walkthrough hub for more guides like this!
