Crafting Elden Ring gives you access to all kinds of items wherever you are, as long as you have the ingredients.

Once you’ve found a crafting kit, you can start crafting it at any time. You’ll also need access to cookbooks, which expand the number and types of items you can create.

This page explains how crafting works in Elden Ring, how to get a crafting kit, and from there where to find the game’s first cookbook locations and what they unlock.

Elden Ring Side Quests for Beginners – Side Quests You Need to Do

How to get a crafting kit in Elden Ring

To get a crafting kit, you must visit Kale and the Church of Elleh. This is located just north of the starting location in Elden Ring.

Talk to Kale and then buy the crafting kit for 300 runes. Once this is done, it will be added to your menu for the rest of the game.

Know that it is also worth purchasing your first Kale cookbooks, which will allow you to expand the items you can create. It’s worth researching every merchant you come across, as they will be your main source for cookbooks.

You can also find them in the environment, such as corpses and bandit camps, where you can find others regularly.

How to craft in Elden Ring

Unlike leveling up or equipping Ashes of War, you can craft anywhere by opening your menu once you have a crafting kit.

Open your menu, then select Article Creation, the second option down.

From here, you will see all the items you can create. All you need is a spare broken pot to store it in and the necessary ingredients.

Most of the early elements of the game require local fauna and flora. As you explore, keep an eye out for anything growing in the bushes or on the ground; most of it should stick out. Don’t forget to also search the dungeons, where you can discover many unique ingredients.

If you gather everything as you go, you’ll likely have enough to cover most essential items.

Once you’ve decided on a starting class and a starting keepsake item, you first need to figure out how to level up, how to respec, and how to use Ashes of War. Do you need any directions from there? Our Elden Ring walkthrough and Elden Ring boss order can help you know where to go next, but we also recommend looking for Golden Seeds, Sacred Tears, Crystal Tears, Talismans, and some of our top weapon and armor picks. If you’re nearing the end of the game, we can help you with the Volcano Manor and Rykard quest, Haligtree’s Secret Medallion locations, solving Ordina, the Liturgical Town puzzle, Millicent’s quest, Commander Niall, Morgott, Godskin Duo , Maliketh and Malenia.
