Destiny 2 Leviathan’s Breath quest steps: Banshee’s hidden workshop entrance location for The Back Way and more explained

Destiny 2’s Leviathan’s Breath is an exotic quest for those who have purchased Shadowkeep’s first expansion pass, Season of the Undying.

Released with weekly reset on October 22, 2019, unlocking this exotic bow is perhaps the shortest exotic quest in the game to date.

That said, you’ll probably need some tips on where to go for the first step of the quest: finding the location of the hidden entrance to Banshee’s workshop.

In this page:

How to get the Breath of Leviathan in Destiny 2 in brief

Here’s a quick summary of the steps needed to obtain Leviathan’s Breath:

  • Find the location of the hidden entrance to Banshee’s workshop
  • Complete a handful of Gambit or Strikes matches.
  • 75 precision kills against Vex or Cabal using bows
  • Complete a special version of the Arms Dealer Strike.
  • Visit Banshee-44 and the hidden workshop for the second time.

When the above steps have been completed, Leviathan’s Breath will be all yours.

Where to find the location of the hidden entrance to Banshee’s workshop in Destiny 2’s The Back Way

First, you must visit Banshee-44 in the Tower. He is also known as the Armorer Salesman, who you will find next to the Cryptarch in the Tower.

Banshee-44 will give you the ‘The Back Way’ quest step, which requires you to find the hidden entrance to Banshee’s workshop.

The hint is that you need to start in the Hangar, which is the area east of the Tower; you can get there by turning left as soon as you reach the Hangar’s central fast travel point.

In the Hanger, you must enter a ventilation shaft above where you enter, although to get there you must turn left, climb the stairs in the back left corner, which will take you to a higher level.

Take the walkway leading to the center of the Hangar, then drop down the edge and jump to the area above the entrance.

Here you will find a giant bright blue vent. Enter, follow it to the right to a tighter turn and you’ll emerge into a room bathed in pink light.

From here, turn left through the door, where you will enter an area called “Courtyard.” There is a hole in the floor here that leads you to another ventilation shaft; let yourself fall through it.

Take a few steps to the other side of the pit, then jump at the end to appear in another room, with a robot researching plans on a table.

Head through the door on the far left, down the short stairs to a shadowy storage room with lots of shelves on your left.

Look over the stack of shelves in the middle of the room to see a vent in the ceiling. Climb these shelves and enter the well.

Start exploring and you will soon fall. Turn around, walk to the other end and turn left at the corner where it is bathed in orange light, to reach a walkway with two small platforms on either side and another walkway above.

Use the side platforms to reach this upper walkway, then jump to the next passage at the top of the wall.

In here, drop down and then travel to the other end of the shaft to emerge in the hidden workshop.

The message “Open Door” appears in the back left corner, which will complete this stage of the mission.

If it’s easier, the following video tutorial may help:

Once Banshee’s workshop is found, you must visit Banshee once more (it’s easier to fast travel back to the main Tower area than to head back) to begin the next part of the quest, Introduction to Safecracking 101.

How to complete the rest of the Leviathan’s Breath quest in Destiny 2

Once you’ve visited Banshee’s hidden workshop, acquiring the Leviathan’s Breath quest takes the form you’d expect from an exotic quest in Destiny 2.

First, you must complete matches of Gambit or Strikes as part of Introduction to Safecracking 101. Gambit Prime and Nightfalls give you more progress: it is reported to be 35% and 50% respectively, with other activities ranging between 20% and 25%, according to StompySmashBro on reddit; although we found that three games of Gambit Prime still left us short, suggesting that wins could help.

Either way, Gambit Prime matches tend to be the quickest of all these activities, so we recommend completing them until the mission is complete.

After that, you must get a total of 75 precision kills with bows against Vex or Cabal enemies.

As Datto mentions in the article’s video above, Vex kills are harder to achieve, so it’s worth focusing on Cabal, who can be found in the Leviathan raid (remember that you can visit alone, where there are lines of Cabal aligned). ready to be taken down) or various Lost Sectors, such as The Conflux on Nessus.

After that, you will have to complete a special version of the arms dealer’s strike, which you will find in the Director in the EDZ. It has a power level of 900, so you may need to level up a bit before you can take it on, but it reportedly includes matchmaking, so don’t expect to run it alone, even if you’re not on a Fireteam.

Here’s a replay of Six and Star’s Duo Channel to see what you’re up against:

The Season of the Depths is here along with the Into the Depths quest. You can also know how to go fishing! Don’t forget to keep an eye on the Lost Sector and King’s Fall challenge rotation schedule!

Once it’s complete, we’re almost there. Visit Banshee again in the Tower, then return to the hidden workshop entrance one last time, where you will receive the Breath of Leviathan. Congratulations!
