Animal Crossing Scorpions: How to catch, spawn and get Scorpion Island – or make your own

During the warmer months, you may be able to find a Scorpion running around your island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Due to their rare bug status, you will not only catch scorpions to donate to the museum, but they can also earn you a good amount of bells at Nook’s Cranny.

This page explains everything you need to know, from the basics of capturing Scorpions to how to force Scorpions to spawn yourself.

In this page:

How to find and catch Scorpion in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Scorpions are a rare insect found in New Horizons during the evening hours, between 7 pm and 4 am, and between the months of May to October. Even then, they will only appear on your island at rare intervals.

Scorpions replace tarantulas as the most dangerous insect on your island during the months they are available, and because of this, the method of catching one is very similar to how you catch a tarantula.

Scorpions will only remain on your island for a short period of time, before disappearing. (Look in the upper left corner).

When you approach a Scorpion, he will look towards you and raise his front claws. If you continue moving when these claws are raised, the Scorpion will lunge at you and attack you. It is possible to catch a Scorpion as it runs towards you, but you are more likely to miss and get stung. If this happens, you will be knocked out and returned to your house, while the Scorpion flees into the night.

Stay still when a Scorpion raises its claws.

To successfully catch a Scorpion, approach it slowly with the net raised, which you can do by holding down the A button. Stop moving every time the Scorpion raises its claws, until it returns to normal and you can continue moving. Continue doing this until you are fairly close to the Scorpion, and when the time is right, lower your net to catch it.

Price of scorpions in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Scorpions can be difficult to catch, but, like tarantulas, they are definitely worth the effort.

The selling price of a Scorpion in New Horizons is 8,000 Bells, which means that an inventory of Scorpions will net you a good amount of Bells.

Although you may rarely encounter a Scorpion on your island, out there among the waves is an island full of Scorpions, which you could visit on a Mystery Island tour. If you don’t, you can always force Scorpios to appear under special circumstances.

What is Scorpion Island? How do you generate Scorpion Island and make the most of your visit?

‘Scorpion Island’ is the Scorpion version of ‘Tarantula Island’, the name the fan community gives to the Mystery Island that you can visit and which is home to an endless supply of tarantulas.

If you want to take a tour of Mystery Island, you must first redeem 2,000 Nook Miles for a Nook Miles ticket, which can then be redeemed at the airport. The island you visit will be selected at random, so there is no guarantee that you will land on Scorpion Island. Instead, you should simply continue redeeming Nook Miles and using tickets until you get lucky.

However, Scorpion Island will only appear at night, which is also when Scorpions can be found on your island, so don’t waste your tickets during the day. You’ll still be able to make your fair share of bells, though, as many of these mysterious islands are home to exotic fruits and flowers not found on your island.

When you finally land on Scorpion Island, you must fill your inventory with as many Scorpions as possible. We recommend that you discard any unnecessary tools or materials that you may carry with you. If you need more tools, especially a new network, you can buy tools for 100 Nook Miles from the pilot.

Don’t worry if you get stung by a scorpion on a mysterious island, because the pilot will wake you up, instead of your house. This means you can take as many risks as you want when catching Scorpions on a Mysterious Island.

Although the “Catch scorpions” tip still applies here, you should make sure you don’t get overwhelmed by the number of scorpions. One method is to dig a circle of holes around you and then capture the Scorpions when they approach; just make sure you are too close to the edge, the Scorpions could still reach you.

No matter how you decide to capture these deadly insects, once your inventory is full, you’ll be able to visit Nook’s Cranny and earn at least 200,000 bells alone.

The Animal Crossing 2.0 and Happy Home Paradise update is here! We can help you with the new additions, including where to find Brewster, Gyroids, new villagers, ordinances, new fences, storage shed, new hairstyles, Froggy Chair, group stretches, and Kapp’n boat tours. Cooking can now be unlocked, so you need to know how to make flour and sugar, as well as how to grow carrots, potatoes and tomatoes. In the meantime, if you’re new to Animal Crossing, our New Horizons tips can help you with the basics. From the beginning, there are fish and insects to catch, flowers and fruits to grow. A long-term goal is to increase your Happy Home Academy score. Finally, you need tools like the new ladder and pole to fully explore.

How to force yourself to generate Scorpions yourself to create your own Scorpion Island

If you really want to make money capturing scorpions in New Horizons, you can always force these insects to appear on a mysterious island. This is achieved in exactly the same way that tarantulas were forced to spawn.

First you must clean everything on the island: dig up all the trees, collect all the flowers, break all the rocks after eating fruit, and anything else that may cause other insects to appear. Then, throw all these materials on the beach, since you will no longer need them.

Now that the island is clear, it is a dormant landscape for Scorpions to spawn. However, before you start hunting, we recommend that you create a couple of safe areas by digging a circle of holes. This will allow you to quickly escape from a Scorpion if necessary or catch it if it appears there, allowing you to catch it easily.

You’ll also have to scare away any non-Scorpion insects that may appear on the island, either by catching them and then releasing them or by running around the insect until they leave.

We recommend using the bamboo island as a base to create a Scorpion Island, because it doesn’t take long to clear and it’s on one level, so you don’t have to worry about cliffs. We also won’t have ponds or rivers, so we won’t have to worry about scaring away insects that live in the water, which, again, will make our task much easier.

However, you should note that, as with Tarantula Island, the three-level island type that does not spawn insects will never function as a forced Scorpion Island:

Ultimately, it should also be made explicit that this method is time-consuming and tedious. It takes some time to clear the island, and the rate at which the Scorpion begins to spawn is not as fast as that of a natural Scorpion Island.

If you’re desperate for cash, it’s still an effective method if you’re willing to put in the effort, although you’d be better off targeting rare fish if conditions are right.
