Nook’s Cranny is the main store on your island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons and is run by the tanuki twins, Timmy and Tommy.
With your help, they will open their store and eventually be able to upgrade Nook’s Cranny, allowing them to sell a variety of new items.
Nook’s Cranny also has a daily featured item and a drop box, which you can use when the store is closed.

How to open Nook’s Cranny in Animal Crossing: New Horizons
When you first arrive on your island in New Horizons, Timmy will run a small shop in Residential Services. Here you will be able to sell items to earn bells and purchase a variety of items, including flower seeds.
Once you’ve paid for your tent with Nook Miles, the tanuki team will ask you to help build Nook’s Cranny.
To build Nook’s Cranny, you must collect:
Once you have gathered all of these materials, return to Residential Services and deliver them to Timmy. In exchange, it will allow you to choose the location of the new store.
Now you just have to wait a day for the store to be built!
How to upgrade Nook’s Cranny in Animal Crossing: New Horizons
While having a proper shop on your island in New Horizons is great, you may, after a while, feel quite limited by the stock Tommy and Timmy have to offer. Fortunately, Nook’s Cranny will eventually get a makeover.
To upgrade Nook’s Cranny you must:
- Having at least 200,000 Bells in transactions includes both buying and selling.
- Nook’s Cranny must be open for at least 30 days
As you can see, upgrading Nook’s Cranny is mostly a waiting game, as you’ll easily reach the transaction goal of 200,000 Bells.
We’re not sure if the turnip sale contributes to the 200,000 Bell goal, but considering it’s still a transaction, it’s safe to assume it does.
You’ll know when Nook’s Cranny is getting ready to renew itself because the day before, Isabelle will mention it during her morning announcements, and if you visit Nook’s Cranny, Timmy and Tommy will mention it.
Isabelle and the twins will let you know when they are renovating the store.
The next day, this Nook’s Cranny will be closed for renovations. During this time, you will not be able to access the store or the delivery box.
You cannot access Nook’s Cranny at all when it is being renovated.
Luckily, the renovation will only last one day and you’ll soon be able to enjoy the expanded inventory starting at the new store.
Nook’s Cranny opening hours and what it sells in Animal Crossing: New Horizons explained
Once you’ve helped them open their store, Nook’s Cranny will be available every weekday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Most Nook’s Cranny offers change daily and from player to player, meaning visiting a friend’s island will allow you to purchase items that are not currently for sale on your island.
When it first opens, Nook’s Cranny will have two small display items, which you can purchase multiple times, and two large display items that you can only purchase once per day.
There will also be a cabinet containing the following items:

- Four floors
- Six flower seeds
- A gift wrap

- Both the ladder and the pole must be unlocked first for their recipes to appear in Nook’s Cranny.
The wallpaper, flooring, wrapping paper and flower seeds available will change every day.
The cabinet contains a variety of items.
If Nook’s Cranny receives enough business, Tommy and Timmy will be able to renovate the store. Once it is completed, the number of shares they can hold will increase.
In addition to everything originally available at Nook’s Cranny, you’ll now have the option to:

Dropbox in Animal Crossing: New Horizons explained
If you have something you desperately need to sell when Nook’s Cranny is closed in New Horizons, you can always put it in the drop box.
The drop box is located to the left of the Nook’s Cranny door and as you add items to the box you will be able to see your total earnings from the items placed inside.
However, the drop box has three disadvantages.
The first is that everything you put in the Drop Box will be sold at 20%, then at its usual selling price. This means you will lose bells if you decide to place items in the drop box.
The second disadvantage is that you will have to wait until the next day to receive your Bells.
If you place something in the drop box, you will receive a phone call from the twins the next day, during which they will tell you exactly how much you have won. You’ll find these bells in your bank account at Nook Stop, located under Residential Services.
Third and finally, turnips cannot be placed in the delivery box because, according to the rules of the Stalk Market, turnips must always be sold face to face with Tommy and Timmy.
