Animal Crossing has a lot of items to help players decorate, but kitchen furniture is often in short supply.
Fortunately, there are ways to solve this problem using the custom design feature and some smart kitchen decorating techniques.
If you want to build your own Reddit-worthy ironwood kitchen, we also have tips on how to build the elusive ironwood kitchen.
Custom design tricks to decorate a kitchen in Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Like previous games in the series, New Horizons allows players to customize items with their own designs and even download designs created by other players via the QR code and custom design portal. Players have already come up with some clever ways to use this to solve the kitchen cabinet problem.
Create fake closets with a custom stand
Stalls are a craftable item that is available from the start as a DIY recipe that can be redeemed with Nook Miles at Nook Miles Stop. It is possible to change both the color of the wood of the stands and their design, meaning you can use the stands as fake cabinets to display all your kitchen utensils.
Inspired by a gamer’s faux ironwood kitchen cabinet, I decided to make my own version to match my kitchen, which can be downloaded using the code below. As an added bonus, potted ivy will snag the top of a stand when placed directly on top of it, creating a nice mossy effect.
Create fake backsplashes and shelves
Cutting and cooking in real life is difficult, and many kitchens have backsplash panels to prevent dirt from getting on the walls. So why not design your own in Animal Crossing? Simply use the custom design tool and then display it as a canvas in your home. I designed one for the back of my kitchen-matching gas stove, but this method would also work on top of any kitchen counter. Mosaic style patterns tend to be particularly effective splashes.
Similar to the backsplash, players have created cute canvas designs that can be used as fake shelves. This one from gamer Elena on Reddit is suitable for a light-colored kitchen or living room and can be downloaded using the code below.
Make a two-level room with an optical illusion.
The room layouts in Animal Crossing can sometimes look quite flat, but one way around this is to create an optical illusion with custom layouts to trick the eye into thinking the room has two levels. Inspired by yamaji_maya on Twitter (for which you can find download codes here), I made my own two-level accommodation room using three separate custom design patterns and laying them individually as tile mats to cover half the floor.
Sure, it’s not a kitchen, but the principle is the same and it’s a great way to separate the kitchen and living room.
If you want to try this yourself, choose a darker color for the bottom floor and keep the top and bottom sections similar in tone, as this helps maintain the optical illusion. Placing furniture facing the drop will also help make the illusion feel more natural.
The Animal Crossing 2.0 and Happy Home Paradise update is here! We can help you with the new additions, including where to find Brewster, Gyroids, new villagers, ordinances, new fences, storage shed, new hairstyles, Froggy Chair, group stretches, and Kapp’n boat tours. Cooking can now be unlocked, so you need to know how to make flour and sugar, as well as how to grow carrots, potatoes and tomatoes. In the meantime, if you’re new to Animal Crossing, our New Horizons tips can help you with the basics. From the beginning, there are fish and insects to catch, flowers and fruits to grow. A long-term goal is to increase your Happy Home Academy score. Finally, you need tools like the new ladder and pole to fully explore.
How to Create an Ironwood Kitchen and Get Other Ironwood Items in Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Ironwood furniture has become incredibly popular in the Animal Crossing community for kitchen designs, and the ironwood kitchen is one of the most sought-after items. Unfortunately, it’s also quite difficult to make, requiring two other rare DIY items to craft.
The recipe for the Ironwood Cooker can be found in the Wildest Dreams DIY Pack, which can be purchased through Nook’s Cranny cabinet fairly early in the game. To create the Ironwood Kitchen you will need four pieces of wood, three Iron Nuggets, an Ironwood Chest of Drawers, and a Cutting Board.
The Ironwood Dresser and Cutting Board are DIY recipes that can be found randomly in the game through the usual methods (such as talking to villagers and opening bottles with messages), but they can be quite difficult to obtain. If you want a more direct way to find the items, it might be easier to ask your friends if they have the recipes or head to trading websites like Nookazon, where other players list their items for trade.
Once you’ve found the recipes, you’ll need seven wood nuggets and four iron nuggets to craft the ironwood dresser, while the cutting board requires two wood nuggets and one iron nugget.
Although it is difficult to find, once you have created the ironwood kitchen, your home will be the talk of the town. Good luck on your search!
